Jim Jendro

Jim Jendro now lives hundreds of miles away, but he was born in Weston, and at least three of his family members worked the hospital before it closed in 1994. One of his aunts worked in the business office, and the others in housekeeping and kitchen.

Jim also informed me that not only did the hospital have its own dairy and gardens, but also its own coal mines for many years. His grandfather "was a coal miner who immigrated from Poland and worked for many years in the mines west of the hospital." The coal was blasted with dynamite, mined by hand, and carried in carts pulled by ponies.
